RetroMUD - It's not just a game, it's an attitude!
Several players have banded up to explore ancient ruins that an enormous monster has taken residence in.
Many monsters are going to be too tough for even the hardiest highbie to solo. Parties are an opportunity to group up with other adventurers and combine your strengths.
💡Ask on the seekchat channel if there is anybody wanting to party.
After somebody has invited you to join their party you will use the command party join <name> to accept the invitation.
Usually, a party will consist of a tank (who stands in front and soaks up damage), a healer, and a number of people who focus on dealing damage.
This is reflected in RetroMUD by party position. You can use the command party place <front/middle/back> to change where your character is standing in relation to the others. If you're in the front row you can be damaged by melee attacks, if you're in the middle row you can be reached by ranged attacks, and the back row is relatively safe (but equally you cannot help the front row).
The other command that you'll need to know as a newbie is party follow. This will cause your character to automatically follow the leader. This helps to keep the group together and prevent people getting lost.
You'll be able to pick up the rest of the party commands as you go, this will be enough for you to join a party, stand in the right place, and not get lost. Read the "help party" in the game for more advanced commands.

Alignment is a necessary and unfortunate side-effect of your actions. It most clearly comes about as the result of killing people, but that is not always the only modifier to alignment. Some quests, a few guilds, and other unique situations are determined or influenced by your alignment.
Type "score" to see your current alignment, and "help alignment descriptions" for a list of possible values.
Characters who kill evil beings become more good, players who kill good beings become more evil. To consistently keep the alignment of good or evil, one must also kill consistently. Neutral beings have a range of alignment somewhere in between.
The following guilds have alignment restrictions: Cultist (evil), Fallen (evil), Necromancer (not good), Monk (neutral), Paladin (good), Templar (good)
If you do not have the appropriate alignment, you will not be able to join the guild, advance in levels in it, or train skills/study spells
Object handling on RetroMUD is quite straightforward, with objects being referred to by their 'ids' or names. For example, 'a battered mace' can probably be referred to as 'mace' or 'battered mace'. If you have several maces, you can refer to 'mace' or 'mace 2', etc.
💡Note that articles are usually ignored.
You may label almost any item: "label <item> as <LABEL>", and then target item using that label (all caps).
If you want to refer to a group of objects, prefix it with 'all'. For example, 'put all mace in chest'. Another version closer to English would be 'put all of the maces in the chest' which also works, as do any combinations.
You should read "help object handling" to get a comprehensive list of all the ways to handle objects.
