RetroMUD - It's not just a game, it's an attitude!
An arcanus mage steps off the boat on the planet of Wysoom
There are six worlds in RetroMUD. Each world has a distinct theme and unique inhabitants. Some guilds offer spells that can transport you across worlds. If you're unable to use those spells you'll need to either use the newbie transport system, or the world transport systems.
As a newbie, you'll want to get around from planet to planet to find different newbie areas, since your guide can only take you to the areas on the planet you are currently on. However, regular planetary transport is confusing for a starting player, so we allow newbies to use newbie transport until they are no longer level 18 or under.
Newbie transport can be found in any adventurer's guild in any major city; Edon for Sosel, Keystone for Welstar, Igneous for Crypt, Scarrowfell for Perdow, Sauronan for Wysoom, and Suthnas for Raji.
Simply use the command "guide" to summon your newbie guide and then "ask guide about advguild" to get taken to the adventurers guild.
Explore the guild a little bit until you spot the newbie transport entry. They tend to look a little different but you should be able to identify them if you see them. For instance, in Edon it is called "newbie-pod", and on Welstar it is "newbie-statue".
Just enter the transport like you would go "north" or "south", by just typing "newbie-whatever".
The outerworld is sometimes a bit confusing and hard to get used to. It's a very large map and often you can't see very much of the map at a time.
Players have created a wiki guide that gives directions to each planets transport systems. These directions are usually in the form of a set of commands that you can enter at a particular room. Most people will use their MUD client to automate sending these commands.
Perdow is a dark sunless planet. All vegetation is carnivorous or parasitic because there is no sunlight for photosynthesis. Perdow has entrances to a inter-planar rift that connects all the planets. You'll find the gates scattered around the outerworld, there is one conveniently close to the main city of Scarrowfell.
Sosel is a hot steaming jungle filled with dinosaurs and primitive tribes. There are magical plant pods that open up during the Soselian day. These pods are always in the same place. If you arrive and they are closed it is likely because it is nighttime on Sosel.
Wysoom is a water planet and has ships that will transport you to the other worlds. Ships depart from the "great arches" on Wysoom. The arches are always in the same place, but the ship available at the arch will change from day to day. You might need to run from arch to arch to find the ship that you are looking for.
The planet of Raji exploded a long time ago and now all that is left are large floating islands of land that orbit around a rift in reality that lies at the center of where the planet was. This rift is how you can travel away from Raji and to other worlds. You will find the entrance to the rift at the center of Raji.
The rift changes regularly and you'll need to explore a little bit to find the portals. They appear as bright white percentage signs on the map. You can use the command "peer portal" to see where it leads to. If the portal leads to the planet you want you can just jump into it and be transported.
Crypt has several deep shafts that permit travel to other planets. The shafts are always in the same location but where each one leads will change from day to day. The shafts are guarded by a Soulspider. These spiders can be a pretty formidable enemy for a newbie, but as you level up you'll find yourself able to squash them quite easily.
Welstar is the planet of law and order. This is where the noble templars and mighty paladins are headquartered. Welstar has magical statues that you can pray to in order to be transported to the other planets. The statues are always in the same locations and always go to the same planet.
Each planet is huge, and hosts cities, guilds and quest areas, some of which are hidden. At low character levels the hostile NPCs won't attack you (see "help newbie advantages"), and this is an excellent time to learn to navigate, and find out what is where.
Bards, the prime explorers, learn a skill to "memorize" the locations, and "navigation" to recall the directions. Members of Telemancer secondary guild can teleport to the previously memorized locations.
